Explore the rich depth of knowledge we have of the Old Kingdom in Ancient
Egypt. The Giza Building Project
is a centralized online resource for fact and theory on Egypt's Old Kingdom
(from Dynasty I through VII). There is an enormous wealth of
information on this time period ranging from Kent Weeks' multi-volume work
on the Western Cemetery; to Mark Lehner's work on the village of the
Workers; to Janice Kamrin's work on private tombs at Beni Hassan; to
articles by independent scholars that are making their way through the
system with no Egyptological "credentials" at all. Creating
awareness of these resources is the primary goal of this site.
Within the Old Kingdom, we also provide a further focus on the
activities and accomplishments of the most famous Dynasty IV Pharaoh, Khufu
(Khnumkhuf). The Khufu Project is a dynamic,
expanding resource concentrating on the structures built by this
king. In conjunction with that growing enlightenment, we come to know
more about the beliefs, worldview and technologies held by the remarkable
culture that achieved so much, so long ago.
Thank you for visiting The Giza Building Project.
